11 Apr 2007 - New equipment at West Hyde and Maple Cross Youth Centre

A £7,000 award from the Local Network Fund has been put to good news by the West Hyde and Maple Cross Youth Centre.

Awarded earlier this year the grant has already been put to good use redecorating the central area, refurbishing it with new tables and chairs and enabling centre users to get on-line with new computers.

Craig Osmond of the Centre led the application process with the support of Mary Green of the CVS in Three Rivers.
Craig said: "West Hyde Youth Centre was in need of a face-lift, so all of us that attend the club decided that we would love an internet cafe situated in the bar area, so we applied to the Local Network Fund and we were successful!"

A room that was run-down has now been brightened up and provides an area where young people can socialise comfortably and use the computers either to play or work.

Mary Green said: "I was delighted to support Craig in his application to the Local Network Fund. The energy and enthusiasm he and the other young people at the Youth Centre show is amazing. Their ambitions for the place is to be commended and this award goes a long way to helping them fulfill them."

The Local Network Fund is administered by the Herts Community Foundation. It is aimed at local voluntary and community groups working with children and young people. Grants range from £250 to £7,000 - however, there is now a limited time before which applications have to be in.
