5 Jul 2006 - Three Rivers CVS congratulated on a successful year
Incoming Chairman Harry Belsey presented his report to the meeting and highlighted the fact that more than 500 new people registered at the Volunteer Centre to help community groups in the district last year. The figure, which covered the Year of the Volunteer 2005, has broken previous records and represents a doubling of the 2004 figure.

He also celebrated the unprecedented number of young people who are helping in the Three Rivers community. Last year, the number of 15 - 18 year olds volunteers recruited nearly doubled to 63, an increase of 29 on the previous year. During the same period, 113 people aged 19 - 25 volunteered compared to 62 in the year before.
Speaking before the AGM at Watersmeet in Rickmansworth, Harry Belsey said: "The past year has been one of significant 'highs'. Numerous voluntary sector groups have received valuable training and advice over the last year and volunteering in the district is flourishing, in particular, volunteering by young adults and teens has seen exponential growth.
"The passion and commitment of our volunteers of all ages has been met by our committed CVS & Volunteer Centre staff throughout the last 12 months."
The success of the gardening project has exceeded expectation and our supported volunteering service has a growing reputation.
He added: "Like many charities, we can expect tough financial challenges over the coming year but I believe we have the skills and commitment to succeed."
David Fitzpatrick, chief executive of the Hertfordshire Community Foundation, spoke eloquently of the Foundation's work in funding and supporting charitable work throughout the county.
The Foundation's work is the "best kept secret" in Hertfordshire said Mr Fitzpatrick, who is determined to let as many people in on it as possible.
The Foundation provides Development Grants of up to £5,000 for up to three years, one-off Project Grants of up to £5,000 and administers the Local Network Fund for children and young people, among many other funding strands.
David also expressed admiration that the CVS in Three Rivers had managed to increase its income and therefore its activities at a time when many are facing cutbacks.
