22 May 2006 - HRH Princess Anne praises the work of Colne Valley Special Sailors

Colne Valley Special Sailors celebrated its fifth birthday with a special visit from the Princess Royal.

HRH Princess Anne is the President of the Royal Yachting Association and Patron of RYA Sailability and visited the CVSS's site at the Aquadrome in Rickmansworth to launch a new rescue boat.

More than a hundred volunteers and well-wishers gathered for the occasion.

Peter Hammond, Chairman of the CVSS, said: "We celebrate our 5th birthday having cared for over 200 sailors with special needs in 2005 alone; and now we have extra volunteers to make possible the opening of Mondays to add to the Wednesdays and Saturdays of the season. And all this is due in some way to you. Thank you very much."

The CVSS enables children and young people with disabilities to experience the delights and freedom of sailing on open water in specially fitted dinghies, with the aid of volunteers.
