8 Feb 2006 - Focus Group for Trustees

This event, organised by The CVS tin Three Rivers, in partnership with other CVSs county-wide, attracted a number of attendees and provoked much discussion.

Voluntary Sector Governance has been earmarked by the Home Office as a key area which requires support and training development.

There is an acknowledged lack of people willing to become trustees and take on the management of local charities. In addition, existing trustees are not making use of the available information, support and advice channels which can help them fulfill their roles.

The CVS wanted to find out how we can better promote the role of management and committee work by finding out what motivates exisiting trustees; what support and training they would like and what they actually get; what they undertand the role of their committee to be in managing their organisation and what they understand their role on the committee to be.

Mary Green, executive director of the CVS, said: "The meeting was very successful. Everyone present was able to put their views across and we covered a number of topics."

Each organisation represented received £30.
