20 Feb 2010 - Rags to Riches
After months of hard work by teams of volunteers the Rags to Riches fashion show has declared a success by the audience and those taking part.
The fashion show with a difference wowed with the imaginative re-invention of clothing bought from three charity shops in Rickmansworth High Street.
Oxfam, Help the Aged and Sue Ryder all sold clothes which were customised by teams of volunteers learning new skills or passing on their skills to others.
Other teams of volunteers organised the publicity, brochures, website and much more. There were back stage artists, stagehands, make-up artists and photographers. All came together to put on a real community event at Watersmeet Theatre in Rickmansworth.
Chief organiser, Kathe Clark of Three Rivers Volunteer Centre thanked all those who took part and helped make the show a success.
"It is fantastic to see so many people willing to put in the time to make something special like this happen. I hope they enjoyed it so much that many - if not all - go on to volunteer regularly. It may not always be as glamorous as a fashion show but the appreciation will be just as heartfelt."
