9 Jul 2008 - Annual General Meeting - CVS Director steps down after seven successful years

Charities and volunteers from all over Three Rivers gathered to wish Mary Green, the executive director of Three Rivers Centre for Voluntary Service, well as she stepped down after seven successful years.

Mary leaves the organisation, which provides support and information to charities and volunteers, in the strongest position it has been in for many years.

Trustees took the opportunity to present Mary with a bouquet and their thanks at their Annual General Meeting held at Watersmeet.

Alf Loose, chairman, said: “We are very sad to lose Mary. She has been with us a long time and has done a wonderful job.”

Mary urged the voluntary community of Three Rivers to make more use of the CVS and its resources.

She added: “I do think that we punch above our weight and always have done and it’s partly down to our being lean and mean and I hope we continue to do so.

“I will remember working at the CVS fondly, it has a great atmosphere to work in, with lots of cups of tea and good humour.”

Shirley Batten-Smith, chair of Watford Chamber of Commerce’s Women in Business, addressed the meeting and encouraged the business community and voluntary community to improve their communication. She emphasised her belief that one of the secrets of business success is to “do a good deed every day”.

“If you want to live in a good community then the price is that you have got to be a good citizen,” she said.

Alf Loose concluded by saying: “I would like to thank all the volunteers, both the ones at the CVS for their sterling work and all the voluntary sector around the district. There is a huge amount of volunteering that goes on in Three Rivers and we really do owe a lot to them all.”
